Peveril Rifle Club select grq-consulting Ltd to deliver new state-of-the-art clubhouse and covered range facility.
grq-consulting Ltd are proud to announce they have been selected to deliver a new bespoke Club House and 25m covered shooting range at Peveril Rifle Club’s Slieau Lhost Small Arms Facility, Windy Corner, Onchan, Isle of Man.
Founded in 1926, Peveril Rifle Club is the oldest shooting club on The Island and is the only facility to offer both a 25m and 50m firing range. The facility has played an integral part in delivering success on the International Stage for Manx competitors, some of whom have gone on to represent The Isle of Man in various shooting disciplines. The aim is to transform the facility and membership experience for hobbyists and more serious marksmen ahead of the Club’s centenary celebrations.
Based on Omega Steel Buildings Solutions’ patented cold rolled galvanised steel portal frame technology the new facility will be the highest portal steel frame building on The Isle of Man and has been designed specifically for its location at Slieau Lhost and is capable of withstanding the very challenging conditions associated with the site.
Designed to sit harmoniously in its location, the Club House will benefit from being clad with the highest level of insulation materials currently available from Omega’s partner Kingspan and built with Part L standards in mind. The objective from the very beginning has been to focus on driving down the overall CO2 footprint of the project to its lowest level by providing full traceability and confidence in the environmental credentials of supply chain partners and in addition, to minimise the ongoing fuel and power consumption requirements of the facility.
As a small Manx based business, we are delighted to have been chosen to deliver what will be the highest portal steel frame building on the Isle of Man in one of the harshest and remote areas. This is testament to the confidence placed in Omega’s focus on designing every building specifically for its intended location taking fully into account the building’s orientation, distance from the coast, altitude and specifically to this site, the extreme high seasonal gale force winds synonymous with Slieau Lhost.
Julian Wood – grq-consulting Ltd CEO and Founder.
Our club will celebrate its centenary year in 2026 and as an organisation it was decided that the facility was in need of modernisation to reflect the aims and aspirations of our current members whilst broadening the long term appeal of the facility. A new modern Club House and a replacement firing range, which has been made possible through the support of The Manx Lottery Fund. will provide opportunities to develop new and existing talent in a facility we can be proud of and that is suitable to host National and International events.
After being made aware of the economic and environmental advantages provided by Omega Steel Buildings’ cold rolled galvanised steel portal frame system, the decision to entrust our business to their local agent grq-consulting Ltd partnering with EG Services who will carry out the Groundworks and general construction on site was an easy one to make.
