The Hidden Cost Savings of Cold-Rolled, Galvanised Steel

The Hidden Cost Savings of Cold-Rolled, Galvanised Steel

Hidden cost savings are everything in today’s market. Here is how our cold-rolled, galvanised steel buildings can save YOU money.

Unrivalled energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

It is a scientific fact that cold-rolled galvanised steel is more energy-efficient and more environmentally friendly to produce than traditional hot-rolled steel.

The low-temperature processing used in its production requires significantly less energy than the high-temperature production process of hot-rolled steel, thereby massively reducing the carbon footprint of any building that is constructed using it.

In addition, cold-rolled galvanised steel is less likely to warp or distort during the production process, minimising waste material and maximising efficiency and further reducing the environmental impact of any building that uses cold-rolled galvanised steel in its construction.

Being already made from between 25% -70% recycled steel, buildings constructed using cold rolled galvanised steel find it easier to meet the ever-stringent sustainability initiatives requirements for green building and can use these advantages to offset any perceived environmental losses to the site.

Steel Framed Building

Lower construction costs.

With a higher strength-to-weight ratio than hot-rolled steel, our cold-rolled galvanised steel portal frame buildings reduce costs across all stages of the construction process.

At grq-consulting Ltd, our suppliers are 100% UK based and situated within a 200-mile radius of our supplier HQ in The West Midlands. The lightweight nature of our product makes it easier to consolidate and transport more building material per load, reducing the number of deliveries to site, keeping the road miles travelled and therefore the overall transportation costs to a minimum.

The lightweight galvanised steel profile also allows for the foundation design to be simplified, reducing the amount of concrete required for the foundation slab/raft. In the vast majority of cases, no specialist cranes or heavy lifting equipment are required to erect our buildings and the majority can be erected using a telehandler.

With CAD-designed, pre-fabricated, pre-drilled brackets and fixings and the use of 16mm 8.8 grade nuts, bolts, and washers throughout the design, our buildings are quick to assemble, needing only a 16mm socket and a ratchet gun per steel erector.

As every design drawing is checked with you, the customer, before the final sign-off, there are no unplanned project delays due to on-site remedial cutting, drilling or fabricator welding caused by errors in the manufacturing process.

With the above in mind, a typical size 1000m2 unit can be erected, ready for cladding in a matter of days reducing our time on site and reducing your time to revenue.

Durability guaranteed.

Another major advantage of using cold-rolled galvanised steel is its durability. The zinc coating protects it from rust and corrosion making it maintenance-free, non-combustible and impervious to environmental factors such as high wind/high salt content locations.

Additionally, this means there will be no need to use harmful chemicals, solvents and paints as part of any pre-handover or ongoing maintenance program saving significant operational expenditure throughout the 50+ year life expectancy of the units.

The thermal and insulation efficiencies of all our units are delivered through our partnership with Kingspan who are the world leader in cladding products and materials. Our customers have several choices on the width of insulation material required and also external colour choice and we are very proud to have built the Island’s first near passive storage facility that requires no artificial heating since it was commissioned in 2020.

We are happy to share what we have learned through this process and the subsequent projects we have worked on with our customers.

In conclusion, there are several environmental and commercial advantages to working with grq-consulting Ltd and Omega Steel Buildings in the construction of your new units, but in our view, the main advantage is that you are working with a local Manx-based CIOM-accredited company that prides itself on delivering excellence of service and a finished product we can both be proud of.
